Advice
We hope the Guidance and links on these pages gives you a good idea of what being a witness will involve and how you can minimise the fuss and help best manage the process. Remember we will all benefit if more of us are prepared to make a stand and, if it comes to it, to take the stand.
At present there is no safe haven where people who have witnessed violent crime can get free, confidential advice. Linked to our community work, we will offer such a service in the loca areas we will be focusing on next year. Related to this part of our work, Witness Confident has been designated a legal advice centre by the Bar Standards Board, the body that regulates barristers. If there proves to be a wider demand for this type of service, we hope we will be able to raise the funds to provide this advice more widely ourselves or to lobby that such support should be provided by local solicitors or some other agency.
If you have witnessed a violent or serious crime and your evidence feels important, we hope this Guidance will encourage you to contact the police. If you remain uncertain whether to do this and would like some confidential advice, you can contact us at help@witnessconfident.org. We will do our best to help but please note that we are a small charity and if the demands on us are high, we may not be able to get back to you as soon as we or you would like. If it's urgent, please flag the email so or call us (contact).
